YMCA swimming lessons offer a unique style of fun. Our lessons are more than just stroke development. They also include personal safety, sports & games, rescue skills all taught with an emphasis on the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Whether it’s gaining confidence from learning to swim or building positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in aquatics at the Y is about building the whole person, from the inside out.We offer summer swim lessons, water aerobics, scuba, and swim teams throughout the county in collaboration with the City of Stockton's Parks & Rec Services. These courses serve 6 months through adults at all skill levels.  Beyond the basics, we offer YMCA junior life guard training and life guard training. Our life guard training includes the water front component as part of the regular course as well as first aid, CPR and oxygen administration.

Sessions meet daily for 2 weeks, Tuesday-Friday. Each lesson is 30 minutes long. Class size is limited. Classes may be canceled due to low enrollment.

Parent/Child (6 mos-3 years)
This class is designed to teach water adjustment and comfort for infants and toddlers. Focus is placed also on parent role in water safety for this age level. 

Pike /Eel/ Ray/Starfish( 3-5 years)
This class is for beginner swimmers with little or no experience in the water.  This class is designed to get students comfortable with the water and to introduce kicking and paddling. As an eel and up, students practice padding on front, back & side. We will introduce breathing, while developing stronger stroke & kicking skills.

Pollywog (5-12 years)                                       
For beginner swimmers with little or no experience in the water.  This class is designed to get students comfortable with the water and to introduce the beginnings of front and back crawl.  Also suitable for swimmers who have completed Pike.

Guppy (5-12 years)                                                
This class is for swimmers who have completed Pollywog or Eel or can swim 10 feet on their front without a flotation device.  The goal of this class is to build front and back crawl endurance and introduce rotary breathing.

Minnow (7-12 years)                                             
For swimmers who can swim 20 yards strong front crawl and back crawl.  Works on developing freestyle and backstroke, while endurance training continues.

Fish (7-14 years)                                                  
For the swimmer able to swim 50 yards of strong freestyle and 25 yards backstroke.  This class will introduce the breaststroke, while continuing to perfect the freestyle and backstroke as well as continue to improve endurance.

Flying Fish (7-14 years)                                           
Swimmers in this class should be able to swim 100 yards of strong freestyle and 50 yards strong backstroke and breaststroke.  The main goals of this class are to introduce the butterfly and sidestroke technique, and to continue building endurance.

Teen (12-16 years)                                                
A beginner class for teens who want to learn the basics of swimming.  Special emphasis is placed on getting comfortable in the water.


We are committed to offering competitive swimming programs which will allow each child to develop a healthy Spirit, Mind and Body. Whether your child is a beginner looking for his/her first competitive experience or they aspire to reach the United States Silver Fins Swim Team, we have a program for you!

7-8 year olds must swim 25 yards in a strong manner without stopping, touching the bottom  or walls.
9-18 year olds must swim 50 yards in a strong manner without stopping, touching the bottom or walls.

Pool parties are a fun and unique experience. Host your next celebration at one of our pools! All rentals include up to 4 lifeguards and freedom to use open space. Additional accommodations can be negotiated. Bring your cake, presents and refreshments and celebrate with us! 

$100 nonrefundable security deposit 
$195 for the first 1.5 hours
$50 for each additional one half hour desired

*Additional fees will apply for parties larger than 50 guests
*All events will be scheduled before or after regular program hours (Weekday availability is depended upon location; Saturday and Sunday before 12pm or after 6pm)
*Events must end before sunset
