Message from Dan Chapman, CEO.

Dear Friends of the YMCA –

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 2 ½ years since our world was stricken by the unknown of a global pandemic.  For everyone, including our YMCA, that first year was so completely unpredictable with so much having been shutdown and everyday life changing so rapidly.  As things slowly began to open up in 2021, our YMCA was able to start offering more and more programs but the number of kids participating was significantly lower than what we experienced before the pandemic.

Today, however, I am so happy to report that the YMCA of San Joaquin County is back!  For much of 2022, the number of youth we are serving has grown at an extremely swift pace and in most cases those numbers are similar to or even greater than what we experienced pre-pandemic.  Credit must be given to where it is due and that is to our community supporters and partners, our board of directors and a tremendously committed and hard-working staff.

Our main programs are afterschool programs, sports, aquatics, childcare, camps and a home visitation initiative in collaboration with First 5 San Joaquin.  This summer, in particular, saw significant growth in sports and aquatics, as well as an increased demand for our Lincoln High School summer camp and a brand new summer camp through Manteca Unified School District.  Additionally, in collaboration with El Concilio, we operated summer programs at five Stockton Unified School District schools for five hours each day.

Speaking of First 5 San Joaquin, congratulations to our First 5 team for receiving the “High 5 Award” for their dedication and performance administering the Health Education Curricula for families with children ages 0 to 5.  Throughout the year, our program team maintained consistent caseloads and successfully completed the program for a number of families.

In closing, thanks to each and every one of you for your commitment and support of the YMCA of San Joaquin County.  You are indeed helping the Y “build strong kids, strong families and strong communities”
