Vulnerable Populations at Risk
Older adults face higher risks of heat illness due to their reduced ability to adjust to temperature changes and the potential impact of certain medications. Babies and young children are also particularly vulnerable as their bodies don't cool down as efficiently as adults, putting them at greater risk of heat-related issues. It is vital to ensure that these populations have access to cool environments and stay hydrated.
Basic tips to help stay safe during the heat.
Keeping Kids Safe
Kids are not immune tot he dangers of extreme heat. Just like adults, they can suffer from heatstroke if not properly cared for. Make sure your kids are kept in shaded areas and have plenty of fresh water to drink. Limit their outdoor activities during the hootest parts of the day, and never leave them in a parked car, even for a short period!

Community Action and Tips
We can all take steps to help protect each other during these hot days. Check-in on family, friends, and neighbors, especially those who are elderly or have young children. Encourage them to stay indoors during peak heat hours, use fans or air conditioning, and drink plenty of fluids. Consider creating a neighborhood watch or buddy system to make sure everyone has someone looking out for them.
